What is Happiness?

Happiness is the experience you go through when you see your best friend after a long time. It is the feeling I experience every time I see my granddaughter, For most of us to experience this feeling is something periodical. We experience happiness for a short time, then we go back our normal neutral state, and then we go through a period of being unhappy, sad, angry, unsatisfied, or overwhelmed. To most of us, this is the only mood cycle that we have experienced and know and can't even imagine it to be otherwise.  There's no secret to finding your happiness.

When you are physically and mentally immersed in activities or being at a place that makes you happy, then you have achieved happiness on the surface. When you are not present with your favorite activities and places, then you are either on a normal neutral mood or back to an unhappy mood looking and searching for what to do next to bring you more happiness. Sometimes, this kind of happiness is taken by mistake with the kind of happiness that is called real happiness, happiness within, blissfulness and enlightenment.

What is Real Happiness?

Real Happiness, to me, is a state of blissfulness that you experience in every moment of your life - even in stressful and negative moments. The person might not be laughing or showing any signs of outward happiness, but is very satisfied and joyful inside. Many who has achieved true happiness or real happiness have done it through conscious effort to access their true happiness from within and carry on with their daily business as usual. There is a secret for finding this kind of happiness and will only become accessible when you actively seek true happiness, but the truth about real happiness is that it is already within you, you just need to claim it and use it to live a happy life.

What Is The Secret To Finding True Happiness?

The secret to finding and claiming your true real happiness within is your desire. When all else fails, or when you go through major life transitions, when you have a health scare, when you get close to a near death experience, when you go through a total loss of your outer world, then you start to ask the real questions about yourself and your existence. These are the times of your spiritual awakening. Some don't even wake up spiritually until the end of their lives, but many come to the realization that they want more - more satisfaction and joy - from life. Sooner or later most of us realize that everything that our identity and ego have built for us with the help of our mind is NOT that gives us true happiness.

When you are spiritually awakened and are asking questions about the purpose of your life, that is when you have found the secret. The rest is easy because now you are ready to learn.  There's a quote that says, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

How to Achieve Real Happiness?

There might be hundreds of ways to achieve real happiness, or state of blissfulness. But, the one, the biggest and the base, the foundation, and the absolute beginning point towards achieving real happiness is: GRATEFULNESS

You must be overflowing with being grateful for everything in your life, including your own breath. Your health, your limbs, your body, your features, your skin color, your hair, the type of your hair, the people in your life, the food you eat, the roof on your head, the bed you sleep in, the shoes you walk on, the clothes you wear, the talent and knowledge that have brought so much convenience to your life, your washing machine, your car, your grocery store, your farmers, your ranchers, your neighbors, your teachers, your colleagues, your bosses, your job, your unfriendly coworkers, your best friends, your smile, your five senses, your ability to talk and walk..... and the list goes on and on

Overflow yourself with gratitude even when you are stuck in traffic - someone is working on the road to make it safer for you; or someone got into an accident and Thank God it wasn't you, or your loved ones. Overflow yourself with gratitude when you fail in your business, when you fail in your marriage, when you fail in your courses, when you are screamed at, when you are criticized, when you feel dumb and down, when you make mistakes, when you are not rewarded, when your expectations are not met, when you get sick, when you see sick people, when you had a fight with your boss, when you can't stand your mother-in-law, when your kids drives you nuts.... and the list goes on and on.

Practice the overflow of gratitude every day, on each hour of the day for THIRTY DAYS: when you wake up, when you eat breakfast, when you get out of the house, when you get to work, when you eat lunch, when you meet a nice person, when you had a tough moment, before meetings, after meetings, on your drive back home, when you shopping, when you run errands, when you see your kids after seven eight hours of work, at dinner, when you sit and relax after dinner, and when you go to bed, and kiss your partner goodnight.

After 30 days, if you haven't found your real happiness yet, you'll go to the next step, which is meditation. This is a subject for another article because there's a lot to cover with meditation.
