Do you feel the world is against you? And you always ask yourself, “Why Me?” This type of feeling puts your state of mind on the opposite side of happiness. Remember, being happy means that you are going with the flow…. You agree with the situation without resistance, and when you ask oh, why me? it means that you are in resistance with what is happening to you.
How To Turn Around Your Misfortune?
The next time, your car fails on you, you get sick, your child breaks a leg, you are laid off your job, your roof is leaking, or your friends doesn’t call you, say Thank You because the universe has something better in store for you and be open to that.
I remember when my husband and I just moved to Maui about two and a half years ago, and we wanted to establish our business in a very short time with very little budget. We decided to sell at the local arts and crafts show. We were happy the first few Sundays we went and then we would celebrate when we came home afterwards. The last times, we didn't do so well. Specifically, the last Sunday, we did not sell a penny. On the way home, without talking, we just looked at each other and started laughing, and I said, well, let's go home and celebrate. He was looking at me like "what are you celebrating?" I said that was the end of the chapter. We know that we are not going to come to this market again, so it is a cause for celebration.
This is how exactly every misfortune should be looked at. Treat it as a lesson because this is exactly when growth happens. When one door closes, one chapter ends; the other doors open, and the next chapter starts. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, feel empowered to move on from a stronger position.
However, here are four things you can do to put yourself in a state of happiness instead of resisting your flow.
- Change your state of mind. Think of a wonderful place and time that can put a smile on your face. Or, just laugh at yourself.
- Accept your failures, vulnerability and misfortunes as life lessons and move on. This time, you are starting from a stronger position than you were in the past.
- Use your experience to empower others. There’s a great deal of good feeling that will come from empowering others. Use it to your benefit.
- Count your blessings and focus on all the positive things you have in your life. Feeling good, and gratitude are the key to turning around your misfortunes.
