Am I Doing It Right?

Let's face it. Meditation is very intimidating practice if you are not a monk or a mystic. The purpose of the practice is to strive for higher spirituality and reach enlightenment. It is a very lengthy and complicated process.

I was asking this question from myself for a long time... thinking I am not getting any results so I may not be doing the right thing. I would go to the next book or guru to learn more. None of them helped up until I realized what is meditation and it's application to my real life.

What Is Meditation?

Meditation is described as the act of thinking in silence. This is correct, but I was questioning myself "what's the purpose of thinking in silence." If it does not improve my life in some way or shape, it's a waste of time. But, because I knew there's something to it, I did not give up and continue to practice consistently.

Now, my opinion about meditation changed. Meditation is a noun referring to the act of thinking in silence in the present moment. It's a state of being awake, alert, conscious and mindful at any given moment in time.

As soon as learned not to do anything, not to try to do it right - I was there in the moment, connected, present, alert and aware. I find it very difficult to describe the blissful feelings of this moment in words.

Why You Are Doubting?

Because it is a very complicated concept practiced for a specific purpose by monks and mystics to reach enlightenment. There are no simple guidance or instructions how you and I can use it to apply the outcome to our normal ordinary life.

However, when there are so many evidence and studies show the many benefits of meditation, there's no reason why we shouldn't try it.

It is normal to doubt and be critical or our practice because until now there were no practical structure on how to do it properly or where to start until now.

I find that the position of your hands, how you sit or lie down, where and when you do it are the least bit important.

How To Start Meditation?

If you are meditating and not getting the results you are looking for, just like I did for many years, now is the time to go back to the beginning.

Sit-down meditation is not where you start. Before that, you'll need to prepare your body to be comfortable, your mind to receive command, and your heart to guide you. The first step to correct meditation is awareness. Body, mind and soul awareness to focus all your attention at the present moment with your daily activities.

At this stage, you do not find time for meditation. You do not meditate, but you have a specific task to embed with your other activities to bring your awareness to the present moment.

Did I get your attention? Great! Your journey has just begun.

Meditation is not something to do when you have time. It is embedded in every cycle of your breath.
